Project FOCUS Updates

As many of you are aware, UNB has launched Project FOCUS, an initiative to revitalize the university’s enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. The first project within this initiative is FOCUS Financials, which will explore the improvement of all the tools, processes and resources UNB employs on a financial level.

Since the last Project FOCUS update, FOCUS Financials began with an initial discovery phase, which included meeting various stakeholders to determine and document the business practices and tools already in place at UNB, as well as identify existing shortcomings and future requirements.

This initial discovery phase began with interviews with subject matter experts at UNB. Consultations were held with Financial Services, Resource Planning and Budgeting, Office of Research Services, and Saint John Financial and Administrative Services during the month of August.

A working group, which is composed of the consulted subject matter experts from the initial discovery phase, has been established and is in the process of documenting standards for the General Ledger. 

Our next steps for FOCUS Financials include:

• Consulting with users in the broader university community
• Developing business knowledge regarding the financial capabilities of the Colleague software, including current and new functionality
