Dr. Sharon Wahl will be joining UNB as dean of education on the Fredericton campus.

Dr. Wahl is currently a professor and associate dean of education at Vancouver Island University. She has more than 30 years of teaching experience at both secondary and post-secondary levels, as well as many years of administrative experience at VIU and Simon Fraser University.

She holds a PhD and an MEd, both from Simon Fraser University, and a BA from the University of Saskatchewan. Dr. Wahl has a professional teacher’s certificate from the University of British Columbia.

“Sharon is a wonderful fit with our faculty, students and staff. She made connections immediately when she visited UNB for her campus visit and I know my colleagues share my enthusiasm about what Sharon will bring to our teaching and research in education,” says Dr. George MacLean, vice-president academic on the UNB Fredericton campus.

Dr. Wahl encourages collaboration and communication and uses those values to support her colleagues. As dean of education at UNB, she intends to expand upon the faculty’s goal of being leaders in educational excellence.

“Research tells us that the nature of learning is changing as our societies continue to evolve. I believe we are in a prime position to facilitate that evolution,” says Dr. Wahl.

Over time, Dr. Wahl’s work has evolved from an interest in developing language acquisition techniques through dramatic technique, to exploring efficacy of teacher education pedagogies. Her research interests include educational leadership and she has written and presented on in-service teacher education, international education and arts pedagogy.

Dr. Wahl looks forward to supporting the faculty of education and the university, and facilitating opportunities for growth and innovation.

“The faculty of education at UNB has a strong and vibrant position in the community and I am eager to continue that good work,” says Dr. Wahl.

Dr. Wahl’s five-year term begins on July 1, 2018.
