Dr. George Maclean, vice-president academic (Fredericton), is pleased to announce that Shawna Bergin will be taking on the role of registrar on the University of New Brunswick’s Fredericton campus, effective Sept. 1, 2016.
Ms. Bergin comes to the role with nearly 15 years of experience with UNB and the PSE environment. For the past six years, she’s served as associate registrar for admissions. In that position, she's proven herself to be an invaluable part of the university by providing strategic analysis and advice on admission initiatives, arising issues and opportunities.
During her time with the registrar’s office, Ms. Bergin spearheaded the Document Imaging Project – an initiative that will launch in September and see the admissions unit go paperless. She was also heavily involved in the introduction of the online undergraduate application form.
Ms. Bergin is involved with numerous committees on campus, including Senate Admissions, Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) Working Group, SEM Student Recruitment, and Graduation. Her many contributions were recognized with the Rising Star Award by the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education in 2007.
“Those of us who have had the pleasure of working with Shawna know her to be a motivating team leader who is dedicated to continually improving university processes for students, faculty and staff,” said Dr. MacLean. “Shawna is a collaborator, and her strong communication skills and ability to manage projects effectively have helped her build positive relationships across the university. And, she is a wonderful colleague and a champion for UNB.”
