As part of the faculty of education’s Year of Creativity a DOCTalk workshop titled “how to disseminate knowledge & secure research funding using film” is being held in Fredericton. This will be the second workshop in a three part series about using film for knowledge mobilization.

The workshop will be held on Jan. 28, 2016 from 12 noon to 1 p.m. in the Millham room of the Harriet Irving Library on UNBs Fredericton campus; registration for this free event can be done online.

Dr. Mary Blatherwick, UNB faculty of education, will explain her approach for the use of documentary film as a medium to disseminate knowledge and engage students and the public. Dr. Blatherwick has produced over 10 short documentary films about visual artists in New Brunswick as part of researching and teaching creativity.

Dr. Sean Lockwood, UNB office of research services, will focus on how alternative knowledge mobilization activities beyond peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations can provide benefits to a research project. He will also explain what knowledge mobilization activities and techniques are acceptable to academic research and foundation funders.

DOCTalks Festival & Symposium Inc. seeks to foster and facilitate the creation, funding and mobilization of ‘knowledge based’ broadcast and digital media content for social, cultural, educational and economic purposes, through cross-sector collaborations and partnerships between academia, cultural industries, not-for-profit groups, government agencies, charitable foundations and community enterprises.
