Seven new members appointed to UNB Board of Governors

The University of New Brunswick is pleased to announce the appointment of seven new members to the Board of Governors.
Among them are Joel Attis, Janet M. Hoyt, Robyn Tingley and Marc Bedard. In addition, three students will join the Board this year, Kevin Collins, Julian Renaud and Jordan Tracey.
In accepting appointments, Board members assume substantial responsibilities, including the strategic oversight, risk management, mitigation and fiduciary responsibility for the sustainability of the institution.
The Board of Governors is composed of 44 members who meet five times a year. The role of the Board of Governors is to approve and support values, vision, mission and strategic goals of the university and to monitor progress against the approved goals. The Board and its committees focus on governance, oversight and policy, including assessing the performance of the president, allocating financial resources and safeguarding the university’s lands and buildings.
The UNB community wishes to thank members of the Board of Governors who recently completed their terms: Shelley Pelkey, Kurt Goddard, Emilie Chiasson, Ashley Macosky and Anthony Secco.
About the new Board Members
Joel Attis is President of AttisCorp Wealth Management, a boutique financial advisory in Moncton, NB. He has a bachelor of commerce from Dalhousie University and a bachelor of laws from UNB. He is a Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute and holds the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors. Prior to entering the financial services sector, Joel practiced corporate law, and in addition developed and operated various hospitality establishments in the Greater Moncton area. He has served on a number of boards including vice-chair of the New Brunswick Investment Management Corporation (NBIMC) and chair of the Capitol Theatre, amongst others.
Janet M. Hoyt is a legal consultant and leadership coach. She has a bachelor of arts from Acadia University, a bachelor of laws from UNB, and a graduate diploma in executive coaching from Royal Roads University. Janet was previously director, people & professional development at Torys LLP. She has more than 30 years of experience in the legal profession, counselling countless lawyers on career opportunities and advancement and is a long-standing member of the Professional Development Consortium.
Robyn Tingley is a social entrepreneur and an advisor to startup companies, large corporations, universities and non-profit agencies. She has a degree in psychology from St. Francis Xavier University and a graduate degree in journalism from King’s College. Robyn is frequently called upon to speak on diversity and leadership, most recently having served as keynote speaker at Oxford University’s March 2015 Empowering Women Through Education event for International Women’s Day.
Marc Bedard is past president of UNB’s Associated Alumni. Marc received a BBA from UNB in 1974 and an MBA from McMaster University in 1975. He had a successful career in accounting and financial management roles in the private sector in Toronto and retired to New Brunswick several years ago. Marc holds a fellow Chartered Professional Accountant designation and a fellow Certified Management Accountant designation. He is the chair of the Advisory Board for the faculty of business administration at UNB Fredericton.
Kevin Collins is a fourth year Honours student in the department of political science.
Julian Renaud has a bachelor of arts in English from UNB and a bachelor of education from Acadia University. He is currently a second year student in the faculty of law at UNB Fredericton.
Jordan Tracey has a bachelor of science in biology from UNB and is now working on his bachelor of business administration at UNB. He is also the president of the Student Representative Council on the Saint John campus.
