On Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m., the University of New Brunswick’s faculty of education will present Robert Kelly as part of their Colloquium Series.
Dr. Kelly is an associate professor at the University of Calgary where he is academic coordinator of the Creative Development in Educational Practice and Design Thinking for Innovation graduate programs in the Werklund School of Education. His talk, which will take place in Room 356 of Marshall d’Avray Hall, 10 MacKay Drive, UNB Fredericton, is titled “Creative Development: Transforming Education through Design Thinking, Innovation and Invention.”
Operationalizing creative practice in education has become an educational imperative in 21st Century learning. Creative development, the continual growth of creative capacity of educator and learner, is viewed as central to educational practice and as important to the fabric of education as more traditional developmental strands such as literacy and numeracy.
Dr. Kelly will share his thoughts on a theoretical framework for creative development alongside a practical exploration of how to operationalize creativity in educational practice from his newest research and book Creative Development: Transforming Education through Design Thinking, Innovation and Invention (in press).
His pioneering work in the area of creativity in education has focused on creativity in teacher education and understanding the nature of creative development in educational practice and has been recognized nationally and internationally.
Dr. Kelly is profiled on the University of Calgary’s Great Teachers website and has been a featured national and international keynote speaker on the topics of creative practice and creative development in education.
