The UNB faculty of law is hosting a public lecture by journalist and author of Debriefing Elsipogtog: The Anatomy of Struggle, Miles Howe. The lecture, "Reflections on Shale Gas Resistance in New Brunswick", will take place Sept. 28 at 6 p.m. in Room 2B of Ludlow Hall.
Howe will reflect on the 2013 protests against Shale Gas development at Elsipogtog, the unexpected alliances that were formed, as well as the ongoing criminal trials regarding charges laid against a number of Aboriginal protestors during the resistance.
“When people are painted into such a corner, and perceive an imminent threat to their drinking water, generations of differences were cast aside and alliances were formed,” said Howe.
Howe, a journalist for the independent Canadian news site Media Co-op, provides a firsthand account of this story as he was embedded in the community during the conflict.
All are welcome. Books will be available for purchase.
