Applications start for J D Irving Limited NB scholarships at UNB to be awarded in May 2015

J.D. Irving, Limited and the University of New Brunswick are pleased to announce that applications for the JDI NB Scholarships are now being accepted until March 1, 2015. The scholarships will be awarded for the first time in May 2015 and include:JDI Limited has established new scholarships for students at UNB

  • Two (2) renewable JDI NB Scholarships to incoming first-year UNB students. The total value of each scholarship is $32,000.
  • In addition for the 2015 year, two students in each of the second, third and fourth years of study will be awarded renewable scholarships valued at $8,000 per year.

The programs eligible for the scholarships include UNB Fredericton-based bachelor of computer science, bachelor of information systems, bachelor of science in software engineering, bachelor of science in forestry, and bachelor of science in environment & natural resources; the UNB Saint John-based bachelor of science in computer science and bachelor of information science, as well as two programs offered on both UNB campuses - the bachelor of business administration and bachelor of science in engineering in any discipline.

The scholarships are funded from a $1 million gift made in 2007 by J.D. Irving, Limited to UNB that will allow the most talented students to apply themselves more fully to their course work and to better prepare for their future careers.

UNB has been a partner in this effort for decades and we are proud to have over 600 UNB grads on our team today,” said Colleen Baxter, Vice President of Human Resources at J.D. Irving, Limited. “This scholarship program is a win-win-win - for the student, the University, and our company in developing the next generation of New Brunswick’s leaders.”

The awards will be presented to students based on academic achievement, self-motivation, commitment to the community, and extracurricular activities, as well as financial need. Those who receive the award may also be offered employment opportunities with J.D. Irving, Limited throughout their degree program and/or upon graduation.
