Kandahar’s Other Losses: Canadian Army Equipment During and After the War in Afghanistan
by Brigadier-General Nicolas Eldaoud, MSC, CD
Commander, 5th Canadian Division
Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014 at 7 p.m.
Beaverbrook Art Gallery
Canada’s fleet of armoured combat and transport vehicles saved hundreds of lives during the toughest years in Kandahar. Keeping them rolling and all their systems functional was no small achievement. Few Canadians are better qualified to speak about the challenge and legacy of long service in Afghanistan for the Army’s equipment. In 2007 then Lieutenant-Colonel Nicolas Eldaoud led the National Support Element during Task Force 3-07’s rotation into Kandahar when the Taliban campaign to re-conquer Kandahar was at its height. He won the Meritorious Service Cross for his actions there. On his return to Canada he took command of the Canadian Army’s vital 202 Workshop Depot, where salvageable worn and wrecked equipment is rebuilt. In 2011 he became Director, Armament Sustainment Program Management.
The lecture is free and open to the public. All are welcome to attend.
Hosted by UNB's Gregg Centre for the Study of War and Society
