The University of New Brunswick’s faculty of nursing will be relocating its Advanced Standing Program (ASP) to the Moncton campus in the fall of 2015.
“This decision was made late last year and is the Faculty’s response to reviews by the Nurses Association of New Brunswick (NANB) and accreditation by the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN),” explains Gail Storr, dean of the faculty of nursing for Fredericton.
“All three reviews commented very positively on the curriculum while acknowledging there are not sufficient clinical placement opportunities in the province to support the numbers of students currently in the program.”
Changing the program from a January-December delivery of the program to a September-August delivery would mean students are eligible to write CNREs in October instead of waiting until February. This change can only be accomplished if the students are in a site with a single program.
“UNB’s Faculty of Nursing was the first nursing program in Canada to offer a program such as the ASP,” says Storr. “Streamlining this program to one site builds on our tradition of innovation and continuing to offer a high quality nursing education.
