UNB Saint John awarded diplomas to 146 students at its 2013 fall convocation ceremony at the Imperial Theatre on Friday, Oct. 25.
UNBSJ conferred an honorary degree to Jane Bertrand, program director for the Margaret & Wallace McCain Family Foundation, and former professor for the School of Early Childhood at George Brown College, at its 31st fall convocation ceremony.
Jane Bertrand is an internationally respected expert in early childhood development. She has provided leadership to early childhood practitioners, researchers and policy thinkers to ensure that early childhood practice is grounded in evidence that helps to inform progressive child- and family-centered policy. She is an expert advisor to the early learning advisor of Ontario, the Atkinson Charitable Foundation, and the Margaret & Wallace McCain Family Foundation.
Dr. John Johnson, of the biology department in the Faculty of Science, Applied Science and Engineering, received the Dr. Allan P. Stuart Memorial Award for Excellence in Teaching.
He demonstrates the qualities that are highly valued in UNB's best teachers. According to several of his students, he is exceedingly knowledgeable about his work, creative in its delivery, approachable, available, and helps them to build confidence in their abilities.
