The University of New Brunswick in Saint John, in partnership with Mount Allison University, is excited to be continuing the Graduation Preparation Series (GPS), helping prepare international students for graduation, for the second year.
Graduation can be quite a busy time. Getting ready to leave the hallowed walls of UNB Saint John to enter the working world can be a daunting undertaking. The GPS has been launched to take some of the anxiety out of it.
Specifically designed to help senior-level international students plan and prepare for their final year at UNB Saint John, the GPS program helps prepare them for their life as a new graduate in a professional working environment.
“The program is divided into four full Saturdays of sessions starting on October 19,” explains Ase Kelly Berg, program coordinator.
The programming focuses on area such as career path development, job hunting and mock interviews. Participants are given the opportunity to increase their strengths within each area.
After the programming is completed participants have the opportunity to apply for a paid internship with local businesses and organizations such as Scotiabank, Enterprise Saint John and the Urban and Community Studies Institute.
“What we want to do is give our students the chance to gain practical work experience before they actually enter the workforce,” says Kelly Berg.
The Government of New Brunswick's Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour are collaborating with UNB Saint John and Mount Allison University as a sponsor of the GPS program.
