The University of New Brunswick's Community Health Clinic (CHC) was awarded a Community Service Learning Award by the J. W. McConnell Family Foundation on June 13.
The Community Health Clinic was developed in 2002 as an interdisciplinary, nurse-managed facility to provide primary healthcare to people without access to primary care, including vulnerable populations. Community partners and nursing faculty members recognized the need for year-round community healthcare for at-risk populations. The CHC now provides transformative learning experiences and research opportunities for students from a variety of disciplines, and offers continuous primary healthcare - including outreach programs - at a nurse practitioner clinic in downtown Fredericton.
The J. W. McConnell Family Foundation is a private philanthropic organization funding programs that support Canadians in building a more innovative, inclusive, sustainable, and resilient society. The award was presented at the Community-University Expo 2013 on June 13 in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador. The award was accepted by David Burns, vice-president (research) on behalf of UNB.
