UNB Fredericton hosts infertility expert

As part of the 7th Annual Canadian Infertility Awareness Week (CIAW), infertility expert, Dr. David Young, will present at UNB Fredericton on Wednesday, May 22, at 7 p.m.
Organized by Fredericton’s Infertility Support group and sponsored by the Infertility Awareness Association of Canada (IAAC), Fertility Options in 2013 will take place in Room 53 of MacLaggan Hall, UNB Fredericton.

About the lecturer
Dr. Young graduated with a medical degree from Dalhousie University in 1973 and in 1989, he became the chief of obstetrics and professor and chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Memorial University in Newfoundland. He returned to Halifax in 1997 as professor and head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Dalhousie University and the IWK Health Centre. He later assumed the position of executive vice president at Atlantic Assisted Reproductive Therapies.
In 2008, Dr. Young received an SOGC Millennium Fellowship and the Walter C. MacKenzie Fellowship in Surgery from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada to study assisted reproductive therapies and in vitro fertilization at the Ottawa Fertility Centre and Calgary’s Regional Fertility Program.
Dr. Young's current practice includes assisted reproductive therapies, IVF, clinical obstetrics, fetal assessment via ultrasound, and invasive fetal diagnosis and therapy.
About the Fredericton Infertility Support Group
The Fredericton Infertility Support Group was formed in 2001 by UNB nursing instructor, Pam Burton, who experienced 11 years of unexplained infertility. Ms. Burton obtained a master of nursing degree from UNB. Her thesis was titled The Infertility Experience of Women in New Brunswick.
The group currently meets the third Saturday of the month (no meetings December, July and August), at 1 p.m., in Room 125 MacLaggan Hall, UNB Fredericton.
Canadian Infertility Awareness Week
The Infertility Awareness Association of Canada (IAAC) will be sponsoring the 2013 Canadian Infertility Awareness Week (CIAW), to take place from May 19th through the 26th. This year's CIAW will be focused on raising awareness about infertility and promoting fertility education and in particular the need to educate young adults about fertility. Conferences and events will be held across the country and will feature various specialists in reproductive health.
