Four students will represent their graduating classes as this year's valedictorians at the University of New Brunswick's 184th Encaenia at The Richard J. CURRIE CENTER on May 29-30.

UNB Fredericton's 2013 valedictorians were nominated by their peers, judged by panelists and finally elected by members of their graduating class.

The UNB Fredericton valedictorians

Katryna Leigh Roos, from Moncton, N.B., will address students in the faculties of science and nursing on Wednesday, May 29, at 10 a.m. (Ceremony A). Originally from Moncton, Katryna began her time at UNB living in Lady Dunn Hall and participated in a number of fundraisers including Run for the Cure. Graduating with a bachelor of nursing degree, her next venture will be to work at a nursing station in Northern Canada.  She would later like to travel with nursing and Doctors Without Borders.  She ultimately sees herself back in the Maritimes to work in Paediatrics, Cardiac care, and become a clinical instructor.

Devin O'Brien, from Saint John, N.B., will address students in the faculties of business administration, education and kinesiology on Wednesday, May 29, at 2:30 p.m. (Ceremony B).  Devin will receive a bachelor of science in kinesiology degree with honours.  During his time at UNB, Devin was a Kin Kids leader, healthy living mentor and the athletic therapist for the UNB women’s volleyball team. He was also a member of Right to Play UNB.  For the past couple years he’s volunteered as an assistant coach with the Saint John High School boys volleyball team.  He plans to apply to medical school soon in hopes of pursuing a career as a cardiovascular surgeon.

Josh Tuttle, from Thornbury, Ont., will address students in the faculties of arts, law, renaissance college and interdisciplinary studies on Thursday, May 30, at 10 a.m. (Ceremony C). Josh was the recipient of many scholarships and awards during his time at UNB, including the Canadian Council of Criminal Defence Lawyers Prize in Criminal Law, the New Brunswick Law Foundation Scholarship and the ScotiaBank International Study Award—just to name a few. During his law degree, Josh played on a number of intramural sports teams and participated in the Attorney-General internship, Ludlow Moot Court, Pro Bono Students Canada, and the first-year Peer Mentorship program. This past year he spent four months at a university in Amsterdam as part of an exchange program. After graduation, Josh will be articling with Hicks Adams, a criminal defence firm in Toronto.

Graham McIntyre, from Bedford, N.S., will address the faculties of computer science, forestry & environmental management and engineering on Thursday, May 30, at 2:30 p.m. (Ceremony D).  While pursuing bachelor of science in electrical engineering, Graham served as VP external communications for Engineering Undergraduate Society. He is a member of Canadian ski patrol and volunteers as a sailing instructor with Sail Able Association of Nova Scotia. He was the recipient of the UNBF Student Union Development Scholarship and the John H. Fulton Memorial Scholarship in Electrical Engineering.  After graduation Graham plans to travel the country before settling into a career.
