FREDERICTON – The official Opening Ceremony for new students at the University of New Brunswick’s Fredericton campus will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 5, at 11:15 a.m. at the Richard J. CURRIE CENTER.
This annual ceremony is an opportunity to officially welcome new students to the Fredericton campus and celebrate their entry into higher education. This ceremony, along with Encaenia (UNB’s graduation ceremony), acts as a "bookend" to the academic experience of UNB students.
The Opening Ceremony will begin with a procession from the Mackay Promenade (the grassy area downhill from the Student Union Building) and will include messages from UNB’s President, Dr. Eddy Campbell, and UNB’s Vice-President Fredericton (Academic), Dr. Anthony Secco. The ceremony will also feature a welcome from the UNB-Fredericton Student Union and some inspiring words from the Honourable Patricia Cumming, featured speaker and judge of the Provincial Court of New Brunswick.
New students will be led to the Mackay Promenade by those responsible for Orientation in their faculty. They will line up under their faculty banner in preparation for the procession.
If the rain plan is to be put into effect, new students will be led directly to the CURRIE CENTER for the ceremony by those responsible for Orientation in the faculty.
