Alexander MacLeod will read from, Light Lifting, on Monday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. in the Ganong Hall Lecture Theatre on the Saint John campus of the University of New Brunswick.
Born in Inverness, Cape Breton and raised in Windsor, Ontario, Alexander MacLeod’s debut story collection, Light Lifting (2010), was shortlisted for two Atlantic Book Awards, a Commonwealth Prize, the Frank O’Connor Award, and the Giller Prize. The Giller jury found his stories to be “a careful marriage of the lyric and the narrative: each unfolds around a resonant, ineffable moment, replete with history and emotion, a Gordian knot comprised of all the strands that lead up to and away from it.” Light Lifting won the Margaret and John Savage First Book Award. MacLeod teaches at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax.
The reading is hosted by the Lorenzo Reading Series and the UNB Saint John Bookstore, and supported by the Canada Council for the Arts. Admission is free and all are welcome to attend.
