The work of University of New Brunswick Alumnus and nationally renowned scholar, Herb Wyile, displays a deep interest in and commitment to Atlantic Canadian Studies.  The University of New Brunswick is pleased to welcome Dr. Wyile as the guest speaker for the 2011-2012 W. Stewart MacNutt Memorial Lecture. Dr. Wyile will visit both UNB campuses to deliver a talk, entitled No Left Turn at Tim Hortons: Atlantic Canada and Atlantic-Canadian Literature in the Neoliberal Era.  The Fredericton lecture will take place Wednesday, Oct 26, in the Alfred G. Bailey Auditorium, Tilley Hall, Room 102, at 5:30 p.m.

The Saint John lecture will take place at Thursday, Oct. 27, in Irving Hall, Room 107, at 6 p.m.

The lectures are free and open to the public. Dr. Wyile is a professor in the department of English at Acadia University in Nova Scotia. He is known for his engaging speaking style that appeals to scholars and the general public alike. Jennifer Andrews and Ross Leckie, professors in the department of English, nominated Wyile as this year’s lecturer, saying his ability to stimulate thoughtful interventions and cultivate strong relationships between and among Atlantic Canadian scholars is remarkable. “He is known for being a lively, entertaining, and provocative lecturer and not surprisingly has been an invited guest speaker at a wide range of events at universities across Canada” said Dr. Andrews. Dr. Wyile’s long list of publications includes three books, the most recent of which is Anne of Tim Hortons: Globalization and the Reshaping of Atlantic-Canadian Literature (2011).  He is also the author of dozens of journal articles, book chapters, book reviews and presentations. The annual W. Stewart MacNutt Memorial Lecture honours the late historian, professor and humanitarian for his many contributions to UNB and to the development of Atlantic Canadian history as a field of study.
