Distinguished scholar and Eileen Wallace Children’s Literature Fellow, Farah Mendlesohn, will deliver a weekly series of noon hour lectures on fantasy literature for children in the Nan Gregg Room, fourth floor, Harriet Irving Library, on the UNB Fredericton campus.
Topics and dates are as follows:
• Sept. 13, noon - The enclosed child-garden of the 19th century fantasy
• Sept. 20, noon - Escaping the influence of Narnia in the Inter-War fantasy
• Sept. 27, noon - Destiny and decline in the post-war fantasy
• Oct. 4, noon - Canadian children's fantasy: the results of research in the Wallace Collection
Members of the public are invited. Admission is free.
Dr. Mendlesohn, a scholar at Middlesex University in North London is a distinguished researcher in her field. She has authored such key texts as The Cambridge Companion to Science Fiction (2005), which won both the Hugo Award and the British Science Fiction Association Award (BSFA), Rhetorics of Fantasy (2009), which also won the BSFA, and The Inter-galactic Playground: A Critical Study of Children’s and Teens’ Science Fiction (2009).
