The University of New Brunswick has launched a new strategic plan to serve as the university’s decision-making guide for the next five years. In December 2010, after 18 months of consultation and analysis, the Board of Governors and both academic senates approved the plan. As the plan takes life in the New Year, it will steer the university in its aim to be the best teaching and learning institution in Canada, balancing and integrating excellence in education and research. “A great deal of work has gone into the creation of our plan,” said Dr. Eddy Campbell, UNB president and vice-chancellor. “Our goals are ambitious but I know that together we can build a better university for people in New Brunswick and around the world.” Implementing the plan will require a commitment to: further develop an innovative mix of programs and their modes of delivery; work with government to develop a rolling multi-year funding model; raise funds to support the plan; increase research revenues; offer much-needed non-academic and professional development opportunities; and improve UNB recruitment. An implementation plan is currently under development and various assessment tools will be used to measure progress, which will be reported publicly on a regular basis as the plan’s goals are achieved.
