SAINT JOHN - It took the University of New Brunswick Saint John Seawolves almost two quarters to get rolling, but once they got the blue and white machine moving the Seawolves bulldozed the University of Dalhousie Tigers 40-6 to win the Moosehead Cup Saturday.
Some 600 people braved the near-freezing temperatures at the Canada Games Stadium to watch the Seawolves take to a snow-covered field and put an exclamation mark on a perfect season winning the Atlantic Football League championship.
After the 8-0 Seawolves went three-and-out on their first possession, Tigers running back Greg Pelly took a John Phillips kick and cut back across the field. With blazing speed Pelly lit the jets and sprinted 65 yards for six points.
The Seawolves wouldn't make that mistake again and Phillips did everything he could to deliver future boots away from Pelly and out of the speedster's hands.
The Tigers then kicked off and the Seawolves fumbled on their own 30-yard line only to recover the ball. On the next play Jordan Blizzard took an off tackle hand off and galloped 75 yards for six points.
It was the beginning of the end for the Tigers.
Blizzard would rush for some 250 yards on Saturday and cross the goal line three times.
"They just made the holes and I ran through it," Blizzard said of his offensive line. "That's all it was, the blocking. ...?This is the biggest game I've played in and definitely the best I've ever played."
