Rebecca Snow says she feels honoured to have received the inaugural Robin Rocca Memorial Scholarship because it means she personifies what the ambitious young man stood for.
"He led such a rich life and to be compared to that feels really good," Snow said.
Rocca was an electrical engineer who died of acute myeloid leukemia in September 2009, when he was 29 years old.
Like Rocca, Snow is a high academic achiever, is actively involved in sports, and volunteers with a number of community organizations.
She is studying health sciences and plans on being a physiotherapist, a program that will take five years to complete.
"The scholarship will really help out," she said of the $2,000 prize.
Snow is a graduate of Saint John High School and is in her first year of studies at the University of New Brunswick Saint John.
