623 students receive degrees at UNB s fall Graduation ceremonies

The University of New Brunswick celebrated the accomplishments of 623 graduates from across Canada and around the globe at its fall graduation ceremonies in Fredericton and Saint John, Oct. 21 and 22.
This year’s ceremonies saw 407 students receive bachelor’s degrees, 184 earn master’s degrees and 32 achieve the highest level of academic achievement, the PhD.
Donald Bruce Nerbas of Winnipeg, Man., who graduated with a PhD in history, was awarded the Governor General’s Gold Medal for outstanding achievement in graduate studies. Lucas Charles Madill of Montreal, Que., received the Lieutenant-Governor of New Brunswick’s Silver Medal in Education as the top student graduating from the faculty of education in Fredericton.
Dr. Allan P. Stuart Memorial Awards for Excellence in Teaching were presented to education professor Mary Blatherwick and biology professor Dion Durnford, while Margaret Conrad and Roger Ploude were named professors emeritus in history and English, respectively.
Honorary degrees were awarded to UNB alumni Dana Hanson and Dawn Sharpe.
