The keynote event in Fredericton will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 10, at 7:30 p.m. in MacLaggan Hall, Room 105, with author and humanitarian advocate James Orbinski.

Dr. Orbinski was the international president of Doctors Without Borders in 1999 when it was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. He is a research scientist and associate professor at St. Michael's Hospital and the University of Toronto. Dr. Orbinski lectures internationally on humanitarianism and global health. He is the author of the critically acclaimed, national bestseller An Imperfect Offering. Admission will be free, but donations will be accepted for Haiti.

The keynote event in Saint John will be a public lecture by Jean McCardle, a senior adviser with the Canadian International Development Agency. Ms. McCardle has just returned from a 16-month assignment with the Task Force Kandahar.

Her lecture will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 10, at 7 p.m., in Oland Hall, Room 104. She will hold an interactive session with students interested in pursuing a career in international development work on Wednesday, Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. in Oland Hall, Room 206. On Thursday, Feb. 11, Ms. McCardle will be in Fredericton for another public lecture at 7 p.m. in the Wu Conference Centre.

International Development Week, the signature week for Canada’s international development community, is celebrated each year in February.

It provides a unique opportunity for the Government of Canada, and Canadian organizations and individuals to engage in the challenges and successes encountered in international development work.
