Representatives of the Association of University of New Brunswick Teachers (AUNBT) and the University of New Brunswick continue to negotiate for an eleventh collective agreement for UNB's approximately 600 full-time teachers, researchers and librarians.
On Feb. 18, 2010, the New Brunswick Minister of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour announced the formation of a conciliation board to enquire into the remaining bargaining differences between the parties. Although rare, this decision is one of the options available to the Minister as outlined in the Industrial Relations Act. The recommendations of such a board are non-binding.
Both AUNBT and the UNB administration continue to share the goal of supporting the communities around us and of making UNB a better place to study and work.
While negotiations continue, the previous collective agreement, for the period July 1, 2005 to June 30, 2009, remains in effect.
AUNBT and UNB have agreed that all communication with the media regarding negotiations will be by way of joint statements at this time.
