Dear members of the UNB community,

I am pleased to announce that the UNB chosen name and gender identity online form is now live

This form is backed by the UNB Chosen Name and Gender Identity Policy, which is designed to support all members of the UNB community, particularly trans and non-binary folks or others who use a chosen first or middle name.

The UNB Chosen Name and Gender Identity Policy, which was approved by UNB's Board of Governors in December 2020, is the result of years of work completed by the Chosen Name and Gender Identity Policy Committee. This committee has been diligently working to find ways to best support the diversity of all students, faculty and staff.

The form will give all students, faculty and staff the ability to indicate their gender identity and use a first or middle name at the university without having to change their name legally or provide a reason for their request. Additionally, the accompanying documentation previously requested to support a change of name or gender will no longer be required in most circumstances.

For updated information on the policy and its implementation, please visit the Chosen Name and Gender Identity Policy website. Tips and recommendations to help faculty, staff and students foster safer, inclusive environments will be sent out through MyUNB news in the coming days. Information on pronoun usage and upcoming educational workshops can be accessed through our equity, diversity and inclusion website.

UNB is committed to equity, diversity and inclusion. This form is a step in the right direction. We will continue to foster a caring and safer environment for our community.

With kind regards,

Paul J. Mazerolle

President and Vice-Chancellor
