Review of Associate Vice-President Academic (Learning Environment)

Dr. Kathy Wilson’s term as Associate Vice-President Academic (Learning Environment) [AVPALE] ends on December 31, 2019.  A review advisory committee has been formed as required in Senate regulations to recommend an appointment with effect from January 1, 2020.  The Review Advisory Committee is comprised as follows:

 

Dr. George MacLean                 Chair, Vice-President Academic

Dr. Sharon Wahl                       Dean appointed by Deans’ Council and the VPA

Mr. Ken Reimer                        Director reporting directly to the AVPALE

Dr. Magdalen Normandeau        Faculty member appointed by Senate    

Grace Mangusso                        Undergraduate Student Member Appointed by Senate

 

Dr. Wilson is eligible for reappointment and has expressed interest in serving for a further term. The first responsibility of the Committee is to review the performance of the incumbent.  The purpose of this memorandum is to solicit your written opinion of:

  • Dr. Wilson’s performance as AVPALE to date;
  • significant issues and challenges facing the AVPALE over the next three to five years.

You may want to address your remarks to some or all of the following representative areas of duties and responsibilities:

  • promote a positive learning environment; 
  • support and development of the whole person;
  • support of academic programs that are engaging, challenging, and relevant;
  • support of individual and collective excellence in teaching and learning;
  • provide leadership in strategic initiatives including:  teaching and learning spaces, academic advising, student success initiatives,  and development and recognition of teaching excellence;  and
  • enhance access and support for under-represented groups and international students

You may send your comments by email to searchvp@unb.ca.  Your email address and signature lines will be removed before being viewed by the Review Advisory Committee.  If you would prefer to submit your comments by hardcopy, you may put your unsigned submission in a plain envelope, enclose that envelope in another envelope with your name and signature on the back, and then drop if off or send it via campus mail to the Office of the Vice-President Academic in Sir Howard Douglas Hall, Room 105.  No anonymous submissions will be accepted.

Your comments will be provided in confidence to the members of the Review Advisory Committee to enable them to vet the accuracy of a summary to be prepared by the Committee Chair.  These comments will be provided to the incumbent prior to her advising the Committee whether she wishes to continue to be considered for reappointment.

Your comments should be submitted by 4:30 pm on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2019.
