Guidelines for Holiday Decorations

With the Holiday Season upon us, we have already begun to see decorations being installed across the City. Please see below some reminders for campus.

Live trees or decorations made from harvested natural products (e.g. wreaths/garlands) are not recommended for use in UNB buildings for several reasons (e.g. fire hazard, allergies). Artificial trees/wreaths/garlands are permitted. All decorations should be removed/put away prior to the university closure for the holidays. If lights or other electronic decorations are used they must be:

- used according to the manufacturer’s instructions;

- intended for indoor use;

- energy efficient (e.g. LED or incandescent mini-lights); and,

- unplugged at the end of each day.

Power bars and/or extension cords must not be plugged into one another, but rather, directly into a wall outlet.

Please be mindful of those who experience allergies/sensitivities, as scented items of any kind can cause reactions. If you are requested to remove such an item, please remember, it is not a personal commentary, but rather, one being made with someone’s personal well-being in mind.

If you have any questions or concerns, please call the EHS office (453-5075) during regular hours; or Security (453-4830) after hours.
