Upper-year students (both indigenous and non-indigenous) with an interest in developing reciprocal and meaningful connections with Indigenous students new to UNB are invited to participate in a new program starting in the fall of 2019.

Program Description
The Nisuhsane (“let us walk together”) project connects new to UNB Indigenous students with upper-year students (both indigenous and non-indigenous) individually or in small groups to share and benefit from each other’s experience.

Nisuhsane is rooted in respect, humility and mutual exchange.

Upper year students can help students new to UNB navigate the university system and discover other points of connection and interest on campus and in the greater Fredericton community.

Non-indigenous participants will gain perspective on current and historical indigenous experiences and culture, including the Truth and Reconciliation process.

All participants will grow through friendship, intercultural dialogue and the sharing of knowledge and experience.

Who Should Participate
Any upper year (year 2+) student with an open-heart and desire to meet and learn from others is invited to participate in this program. (An exemplary academic record is not required to participate.)

Students would participate in weekly or bi-weekly individual or small group meetings, as well as attend monthly large group events. In addition, they would be required to attend an orientation session.

Topics will include:
-    Effective communication
-    Ethical behavior
-    Growth and strength-based mindset
-    Truth and Reconciliation
-    Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqey language
