Please join me in offering condolences to family and friends of retired librarian Everett Dunfield, who passed away on Aug. 16, 2019, in Fredericton. He was 88.

After completing UNB’s bachelor of science program in 1968, Everett worked in the collections department at the Harriet Irving Library in Fredericton for one year (1968-69). Everett went on to complete a master’s degree in library services at Dalhousie University (1971). Immediately after graduation, he came back to UNB Fredericton and was appointed librarian in 1971.

During his time at UNB, Everett openly encouraged and supported all projects related to library digitization, including UNB’s Engineering Library Indexing and Searching Technique (ENLIST), a computer implementation of a traditional file card indexing/cataloguing system. He retired as head librarian at UNB Fredericton’s engineering library in 1995 after 25 years of service.

Many of Everett’s friends and colleagues remember him for his kind and giving nature. Everett was an active member of the Brunswick Street Baptist Church for many years. He also volunteered with several organizations and was a dedicated blood donor.

A visitation and memorial service took place last week. Condolences can be made online. Flags have been lowered on both the Fredericton and Saint John campuses. Everett will be missed by all who knew him and our thoughts are with his family.
