Please join me in offering condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of retired faculty member Robert Stangroom, who passed away on June 27, 2019. He was 98.

Bob was a member of the physical education faculty (now kinesiology) on the UNB Fredericton campus from 1965 until his retirement in 1986. As a well-liked professor, his students and colleagues will remember his compassion and quiet intellect. Bob had high standards and raised people up, seeing every individual’s full potential and treating them as worthy of his efforts.

Bob was passionate about fitness and encouraging those around him to live healthy lifestyles. In particular, Bob was an avid swimmer and coach. He volunteered for the Red Cross Water Safety programs and instilled a passion for swimming and safety in his students. As Bob liked to say, “Swimming is not just a sport or pastime, but a life skill.” Bob continued to swim in his retirement and competed the Masters Swimming Championships in the 80 – 85 age group, where he set a Canadian record in 50 Fly.

A celebration of Bob’s life took place on July 4 in Lethbridge, AB. Condolences can be made online. Bob will be missed by all who knew him and our thoughts are with his family.

Sincerely,

Dr. Paul Mazerolle

President and Vice-Chancellor
