Bard in the Barracks, in cooperation with Theatre UNB, is set to begin its 14th year of staging the works of William Shakespeare outdoors in downtown Fredericton.

For A Midsummer Night’s Dream in Odell Park, directed by Len Falkenstein, audiences will be transported to Hollywood of the 1950s as Shakespeare’s ever-popular tale of magic, mischievous fairies, and love lost and found unfolds as part of a nighttime forest adventure filled with songs from classic movie musicals. Measure for Measure in Barracks Square, directed by John Ball in a lively 60s setting, tells a story of power, sexual coercion, and the limits of justice and mercy that is equal parts riveting drama and dark, bawdy humour.

The plays feature a company of 24 of Fredericton’s finest actors and musicians, many of them performing in both plays, including two days (June 30 and July 7) when both productions will be staged as special Twinbill Shakespeare Sundays.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream in Odell Park and Measure for Measure in Barracks Square will be performed from June 21 through July 7. Single tickets range from $12-$20 with discounts for families and groups. Two-show passes, offering the second show at half price, are also available, for $15-$30.
