Please join the Department of Economics for the NB Institute for Research, Data and Training seminar on Thursday, May 23 at 3 p.m. in Tilley Hall, 404.  Speakers are Dr. Ted McDonald and Dr. Phil Leonard.

In times of fiscal constraint and declining population, New Brunswick has a great need for rigorous evidence to support policy and decision-making, but providing that evidence requires extensive data, infrastructure and expertise. NB-IRDT is a research institute at the University of New Brunswick on the Fredericton campus, with satellite sites in Saint John and Moncton. NB-IRDT is also a provincial research data centre and data custodian as defined in legislation. At its core, the NB-IRDT data platform hosts a wide array of prepared but linkable individual-level data from the NB Department of Health and other provincial government departments, regional health authorities and public bodies and makes these data files accessible for research and program evaluation purposes.

The purpose of this presentation is twofold. First, it will outline how NB-IRDT’s data and research infrastructure can be used to facilitate research on health and social outcomes of New Brunswick residents by researchers both in academia and in public, NGO and private sectors. Second, the presentation will outline how NB-IRDT is helping to meet government’s demand for evidence-based decision making in health, labour markets, education and other areas of social and economic policy through collaborative programs of research on government priority areas.

All are welcome.
