The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships Program will fund 70 new two-year awards annually (valued at $70,000/year) with 140 awards active at any one time at program maturity.

Please notify your Dean as soon as possible of your intention to apply, copied to Renee Audet-Martel in the Office of the Vice-President Research (rmartel@unb.ca).

The fellowships will be distributed equally across the three federal granting agencies (CIHR, NSERC, and SSHRC). The goal is to recruit the highest-quality applicants from within Canada and around the world. The program is for only the best and brightest - an elite group of research trainees who have demonstrated both research excellence and leadership potential.

A unique aspect of this program is the requirement that research institutions be closely involved in endorsing applicants. Applications must include elements from the institution that demonstrate the commitment and synergy between the applicant and the institution's strategic priorities.

These include:

* Letter of endorsement from the institution, accompanied by a statement demonstrating synergy – these documents will be prepared by the Office of the VPR in conjunction with the Supervisor.

* Supervisor's statement (must include 5 key pieces of information and be a maximum of 5 pages (see Banting’s website below for details) – this document will be provided by the Supervisor.

The Office of the Vice-President Research at UNB, with input from the President's Office, the Vice-President Academic, Vice-President Saint John, and School of Graduate Studies, will closely review and vet the applications so that only the applicants of the highest quality, who meet the program requirements, will be invited to full application and submitted to Banting for consideration. This will entail a two-tier process with applications being vetted by Deans initially. The Deans will then submit only their ranked top two candidates to the Office of the Vice-President (Research) for final consideration and review by the committee. The timeline and requirements are as follows:

Deadline to Deans Office: By June 21, 2019, submit to your Dean's office your candidate's CV along with a one-page statement demonstrating synergy between the university and the candidate's research program ONLY.  Please cc Renee Audet-Martel (rmartel@unb.ca), so the VP (Research) office is aware of your intent.

Staff from the VPR office will notify the applicants invited to submit full applications by July 19, 2019 giving applicants nearly two full months to prepare their full submissions. The Office of the Vice-President Research will work closely with the chosen candidate(s) and their proposed supervisor to submit the strongest proposal possible and to meet Banting’s stringent application requirements.
