Do you have a UNB-owned device running Windows 10? If so, starting Wednesday, April 3 you may be prompted to restart your device for a large Windows update.

This update will take 30 minutes to one hour to complete. As such, we recommend you wait until the end of the day or another time convenient for you to start the update.

Who is getting the update?

Only UNB-owned Windows 10 devices running versions earlier than 1809 (ie: 1507-1803) will receive this update. If you are running Windows 7 or Windows 10 version 1809, you won’t be impacted.

To check what version of Windows 10 you’re running:

  1. Click on your device’s Start menu.
  2. Type in ‘winver’ and click enter.
  3. A window will appear with your Windows version details.

Why is this update necessary?

Microsoft has announced they will no longer be supporting some earlier versions of Windows 10 effective April 9. As such, ITS is pushing out this update to all older Windows 10 versions so everyone is up-to-date.

Will I notice any changes after the update?

Following the update, your Start menu may show additional Windows apps in the right hand pane (ex: Xbox, Paint 3D, Sticky Notes, Voice Recorder, etc.).This will be the only noticeable change.
