The Monday Night Film Series will present 'The Happy Prince' on Monday, Dec. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in Tilley Hall, 102.

The last days of Oscar Wilde - and the ghosts that haunted them - are vividly evoked in Rupert Everett's directorial debut The Happy Prince. Everett gives a career defining performance as Wilde, physically and emotionally embodying the literary genius as he lives out his last days in exile in Europe.

In a downward spiral following his conviction for “gross indecency”, his body ailing and heavy, his mind spinning, he survives by falling back on the flamboyant irony and brilliant wit that defined him. As the film travels through Wilde's final act and journeys through England, France and Italy, desire and loyalty face off, the transience of lust is laid bare, and the true riches of love are revealed.

The Happy Prince also explores Oscar’s doomed relationships with Lord Alfred ‘Bosie’ Douglas (Colin Morgan) and Robbie Ross (Edwin Thomas), as well as his ex-wife Constance Lloyd (Emily Watson).

This term, 15 limited release, independent foreign and Canadian films will be shown. Admission is $8/film, but a half-yearly $12 student film society membership reduces admission cost to $5/film. The series is open to all. Memberships are available at Tilley Hall, 102 every Monday night.
