On Monday, Nov. 19, William Lahey, president of University of Kings College, Halifax, will be holding a public lecture on “Nova Scotia’s Independent Review of Forestry Practices: Paradigms, Ecological Forestry and Triads.”

The lecture will take place at the Wu Centre Auditorium from 7-9 p.m. All are welcome.

In his lecture, Mr. Lahey will describe the process of the review, which he conducted between August 2017 and April 2018.

The review, which included 80 meetings, advice from a team of experts and more than 250 written submissions, provided 45 recommendations for improvement. Written submissions spoke to a broad range of concerns about forest practices, the forest industry and governance of natural resources.

Over the course of the review, Mr. Lahey and his team of experts held meetings with a diverse cross section of more than 80 groups and individuals, totally approximately 160 participants. These groups included: private citizens, woodlot owners and organizations, non-governmental organizations, academics, industry professionals and providers, government officials and Mi’kmaq representatives.

Mr. Lahey will highlight his 45 recommendations and describe how the report has been received by the government, media and civil society.

Dr. Robert Seymour, Professor Emeritus at the University of Maine, and member of the expert advisory panel, will also be in attendance.
