Physics Seminar - Path Integrals in Quantum Gravity-FR

The next UNBF Physics department seminar will feature Masooma Ali, UNBF Physics/Math, who will present Path Integrals in Quantum Gravity on Thursday, Nov. 29, from 1:15 - 2:15 p.m., in the IUC Physics/Admin Bldg, 204.

“The idea of a path integral for quantum gravity has been around for almost three decades. However, the computation of this path integral is fraught with several technical challenges. Although in the context of Euclidean quantum gravity several interesting results have been obtained in the semiclassical (saddle point) approximation, not much progress has been made beyond saddle point approximations. In this talk, I will construct the path integral for General Relativity in a fixed time gauge and discuss how Monte Carlo techniques can be used to compute this path integral in the restricted setting of homogeneous and isotropic geometries.”
