A UNBF Physics Department Seminar will take place on Thursday, Oct. 18, from 1:15 - 2:15 p.m., in the IUC Physics/Admin Bldg, 204.

Peipei Zhang, Wuhan Institute of Physics & Math, Chinese Academy of Sciences, will discuss  "Progress in helium and Li+ spectroscopy."

“Helium and helium-like ions have long been attractive subjects for theoretical and experimental investigations. These systems allow for high precision theoretical calculations. Comparisons with high precision spectroscopy measurements can provide sensitive tests of bound state QED theory, and can also determine fundamental physical constants and reveal nuclear structure information. In this talk I will first review the recent developments along this line, including the existing discrepancies between theory and experiment. I will then report our recent effort in calculating high order relativistic and QED corrections to the helium and Li+ energy levels and the fine structure splittings of various angular momentum manifolds.”

Please join us for Colloquium tea in P203 beforehand.
