Dr. Chris Baker's research team awarded first prize in the 2019 Awards for Outstanding Research Articles in Biosurveillance-SJ

Congratulations to our very own Dr. Chris Baker, chair, department of computer science, and his research team who were awarded first prize in the 2019 Awards for Outstanding Research Articles in Biosurveillance by International Society for Disease Surveillance (ISDS), the premier organization dedicated to the advancement of the science and practice of biosurveillance.

Dr. Baker and his UNB PhD student Mohammad Sadnan Al Manir, were part of the international team that implemented the Semantics, Interoperability, and Evolution for Malaria Analytics (SIEMA) platform. The winning article “A Malaria Analytics Framework to Support Evolution and Interoperability of Global Health Surveillance Systems” deals with the creation of digital infrastructure for managing changes in a surveillance system designed to support malaria experts planning interventions to halt the spread of the disease.
