First-gen orientation will be held on Thursday, Sept. 6, from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. (drop-in) in the Whitebone Lounge. We are looking for first-gen faculty and staff who are willing to come provide students some guidance and share their own experiences. This is a great opportunity to connect with incoming students and to show? what success looks like for first-gen students!

First-gen? refers to being the first generation to go to university, i.e., the student's? parents or guardians did not. Students whose parents or guardians have less than? a? full undergraduate degree are also usually considered first-gen, as they are more similar than different when compared to students from highly-educated families. First-gen students frequently lack? mentors and are? more likely to experience challenges adjusting to university. They often have feelings of not belonging or that they're not "cut out" for university if they struggle or access support services.

If you were first-gen, come out to connect, listen, and share stories of failure and success! For more information, contact Adam Kelly at or by phone at (506) 648-5580.
