Dr. Joanna Everitt has been appointed the director of the Urban and Community Studies Institute (UCSI).

Dr. Everitt is a professor of political science and a former visiting fellow with the women and public policy program at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.  She also led our Saint John arts faculty as dean for 10 years.

Her research focuses on political and community engagement with a specific interest in the role that identity plays in representation and participation. She is a member of several Boards of Directors of Arts organizations in Saint John and actively involved in the local community.

The UCSI, located on our Saint John campus, draws upon faculty members across both campuses to work towards achieving its mission to understand and contribute to community growth and public policy development (particularly in the area of poverty reduction) in New Brunswick.

The UCSI will also engage in public outreach activities including conferences, workshops, seminars, research presentations, panel discussions, and other events which allow free exchange of information and effective dissemination of research results within and beyond the university.
