We wanted to share with faculty, staff and students that UNB is seeking a Piluwitahasuwin (Assistant Vice-President, Indigenous Engagement). Piluwitahasuwin is a Wolastoqey term meaning ‘one who promotes change in a good way toward truth.’ This individual will help us propel UNB’s TRC Action Plan forward and promote change toward truth.

June is National Indigenous History Month, which allows us the opportunity to celebrate the outstanding contributions of our Indigenous communities and to reflect on the unresolved relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people. The national Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) has called for a bridging of the educational attainment gap within one generation, and such a call resonates with us as leaders in education.

We hope you will help us spread the word about this important position.

Dr. George MacLean

Vice-President Academic (Fredericton)
