Dr. Nicole O'Byrne, an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law, was elected president of the Canadian Law and Society Association (CLSA) at its Annual General Meeting held on June 7, 2018 in Toronto.
The CLSA is an interdisciplinary group of scholars from many disciplines who are interested in the place of law in social, political, economic and cultural life. CLSA members bring training in law, history, sociology, political science, criminology, psychology anthropology, and economics as well as other related areas of socio-legal inquiry. Representing approximately 200 professors nation-wide, the CLSA publishes the Canadian Journal of Law & Society, sponsors an annual conference and graduate student workshop, awards prizes in recognition of superior work in the field and generally works to encourage socio-legal inquiry in Canada and internationally. Dr. O'Byrne will be representing the CLSA this December at two international conferences at the University of Wollongong.
