Raising the Teaching Bar is a biweekly series of very informal teaching discussions. We have a presentation for 20 minutes or so, then ample time to discuss the topic. Join us on Friday, April 13 at 4 p.m. in the Geology Lab, GH206.

The topic, Burn Out, Flame Out, or Laugh Out Loud: How to deal with the Year-after-Year of Teaching will be discussed. When we were students, we learned to deal with end-of-term stress. When we became instructors, we learned how to deal with it from a different point of view. So we're good with the occasional rush. But what about the daily grind? What about the year-after-year slog of teaching? The marking! The students who just don't care, especially the ones that we 'know' from about day two aren't going to do well.? How do we find the energy to keep teaching them? Join us as Lucy Wilson presents some signs of incipient burn-out, and suggests some methods of coping with it before the flames get too high. Let's get together to unload, share our misery, and end up telling funny stories.

Everyone is welcome!
