Please join me in offering condolences to family and friends of retired faculty member Dr. Ronald Pickerill, who passed away on April 5 in Saint John. He was 70.

Ron emigrated from the UK to become a member of the earth sciences department at UNB Fredericton, serving as a dedicated professor and researcher for more than 40 years prior to his 2016 retirement. Colleagues and students will remember Ron for his commitment to academia.

An internationally acclaimed expert in ichnology, the study of trace fossils, Ron left his mark on the field through his many contributions. A number of his fossil discoveries are on display at the New Brunswick Museum. His findings and research have been referenced in numerous papers and he shared his knowledge with thousands of students over his career.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 10, at 2 p.m. at the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel, McAdam’s Funeral Home, 160 York St., Fredericton.

Flags on both the Fredericton and Saint John campuses will be lowered on Tuesday to coincide with his funeral. Condolences can be made online.

Ron will be deeply missed.

Sincerely,

Eddy Campbell
President and Vice-Chancellor
