girls-taking-selfie-unb The University of New Brunswick has a lot of amazing things to be proud of and that students are looking for from a university. We want the world to know who UNB is and what we stand for — but we need your help. After reviewing and analyzing data from UNB’s corporate (e.g. /uofnb) and campus accounts (e.g. /UNBFredericton and /UNBSaintJohn) over the last six months, it became clear that it’s time to adapt our social media strategy to meet the needs of our audience and expand our reach. In order to grow our digital community, increase our engagement and communicate our stories we’re focusing on four themes for each account.

Corporate UNB account

Our corporate account will continue to have an external focus with the following themes:
  • #Motivation Monday: Inspiring alumni, student, faculty and staff stories.
  • Top news stories: Highlight innovative research, entrepreneurship and success stories — key elements of the UNB Brand Foundation.
  • UNB Campus beauty: Incite nostalgia with the beauty of our campuses.
  • #FeatureFriday: Shine a spotlight on the unique work of our research institutes and centres.

Campus accounts

Our campus accounts will continue to have an internal focus with the following themes:

  • #MotivationMonday: Inspiring student, faculty and staff stories.

  • Student life: Events, initiatives, scholarship opportunities, important information, etc.

  • Campus pride: VReds stories, awards, clubs, success stories, etc.

  • #FeatureFriday: Highlight on-campus resources available to students.

We want to hear from you!

Do you know an alumni, student, faculty or staff member that should be feature in a #MotivationMonday? Is your centre or institute pioneering new research? Was your article recently published in a major newspaper or blog? Send us a note at socialmedia@unb.ca and we’ll work together to promote our UNB stories far and wide.

Why the change?

Facebook News Feed shift

On Jan., 11, 2018, Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook will be making changes to the News Feed. In order to avoid being affected by these changes, we need to ensure that we’re creating engaging content tailored to our audiences.

UNB corporate Facebook

Our corporate account promotes UNB at home and globally — with 33% of our audience living outside of Canada. This account has been targeting an older demographic with a public relations focus, but our audience has shifted younger — 68% being 18 to 34.

UNB Fredericton Facebook

Our Fredericton campus account is geared toward current students — with 65% of our audience in the 18 to 24 bracket — and the Fredericton campus community (faculty, staff, researchers, etc.). We want to produce content that encourages a sense of community and discussion as we communicate news and events, share campus pride points and success stories. Email us to pitch your story for consideration.

UNB Saint John Facebook

Our Saint John campus account has a young audience — 69% being 18 to 34. The Saint John accounts feature information for students, news and events for the UNB and Saint John community, while celebrating campus pride and success stories. The Marketing Office partners with Student Recruitment to manage Saint John's social media accounts. Email us to pitch your story for consideration.
