Join us in welcoming Dr. Nichole (Nikki) Scheerer!
Originally from Mississauga, Ontario, Dr. Scheerer is joining our Psychology Department for a term appointment this year.
Nikki completed her BSc and PhD in Psychology, specializing in Cognitive Neuroscience, at Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo, Ontario.
Her research interests include speech motor control (how we use auditory feedback/ the sound of our voice to learn/monitor/correct for errors in the muscle movements required for fluent speech production), Autism Spectrum Disorders (how difficulties in regulating speech might be related to social difficulties witnessed in individuals with ASD), the perceptual decline that accompanies normal aging, genetic markers related to the variability in cognitive abilities (amongst other things!!).

Research Projects Dr. Scheerer is currently working on:
"Right now I am working on projects related to the latter two research interests, I am also helping to put together UNBs first annual Brain Bee — an international competition for high school students that test their knowledge of brain related facts (see: http://brainbee.ca)
Fun facts about Nikki:
"I am a HUGE Jays Fan. I am also an avid cook, as my parents own a restaurant back in Mississauga."

What advice would you offer to new students?
"It is important to maintain a sense of balance. Work hard, but also play hard — your university experience will fly by faster than you think!"
