Students in their final year of engineering at UNB presented their capstone projects virtually this year in the first-ever online Design Symposium.
Final year students worked in groups throughout the past year on a real-world design project from an industry client and were supervised by both industry mentors and a faculty supervisor. At the Design Symposium, students presented their designs to their client partners and to the public and alumni.
Dr. Michel Couturier, the chair for collaborative engineering design education and professor of chemical engineering, says " we received many positive comments regarding the quality of the work performed by the students and the platform that we used to hold the symposium. There were 244 final-year engineering students and 34 second-year Civil Engineering students who gave presentations at the symposium. Close to 1200 people registered for the Design Symposium this year - more than double the attendance at previous in-person symposiums! It was wonderful to see so many UNB alumni, family members and industry representatives take part."
He says because of this year's success, the Faculty plans to hold next year’s Design Symposium using a hybrid approach to take advantage of both the in-person and online models.
