When Jacy Ellingwood signed up for the Human Resources Management (HRM) program at the University of New Brunswick (UNB), she was new to the field of HR. Motivated by a desire to learn and a recommendation from her boss (an HRM program graduate herself), Ellingwood embarked on what would be a transformative learning experience.
Throughout her studies, the program offered a platform for Ellingwood to not only learn material, but also to take newfound insights and immediately put them into action at her workplace. Each course she attended provided valuable ideas that could be implemented, empowering her to navigate the complexities of HR with confidence and proficiency.
Armed with a wealth of knowledge and practical skills, she is able to approach challenges with a newfound sense of assurance and competence.
"Each course I've taken has given me fundamental pieces of the HR puzzle, which has given me a great deal of confidence."
The Human Resources Coordinator at Alcool NB Liquor in Fredericton, says balancing work, life and her education was made possible thanks to the supportive work environment she had throughout her studies and UNB's flexible scheduling options. With unwavering support from dedicated staff members like Career & Professional Development Program Manager, Anthony Klefas, she was able to navigate her educational journey with ease, knowing that assistance was always within reach.
UNB's HRM program is designed to prepare participants for success in the growing field of Human Resources and is suitable for anyone with an interest in the profession. Program graduates include HR professionals who want to expand their knowledge and keep current on issues; entrepreneurs and small business owners seeking to improve their human capital management skills; individuals looking to make a career change; and those who are starting out in the field, like Ellingwood.
The program is comprised of 19 days of virtual instructor-led training, taught by HR professionals — subject matter experts who've gained their experience from working in various HR functions across a wide range of industries. Course topics include attracting, recruiting & retaining talent; performance management systems; labour relations; organizational effectiveness; employment law; conflict resolution; compensation & benefits; and more.
"I can't recommend the program enough. You get to build a network of HR professionals, hear from experts in the field, and acquire knowledge to help further your HR career. It's a fun and cool experience!"
